OUR COLLABORATION

During the dark winter months, a bright idea sparked. Using the MEOLINQ textile attachment for a wearable light could be used for so much more than a regular head torch or a flashlight.
A great idea in many ways, and with a collaboration between MEOLINQ and the plastic manufacturing company Gela we could make it a reality. With complementary strengths, we could take it from start to finish.

1
Forming the project

After several meetings and discussions, we decided to create a wearable light together. MEOLINQ was head of the entire development, everything from design to early prototyping and testing.
In this particular case, we also did market research and tested the product with early adopters to learn how they would use the product.  The biggest challenge with the idea was to understand the market demand. How do we know people will use it?

2
Prototyping

Our vision was to create a unique and exceptionally versatile lamp that you can carry in your pocket. The lamp was designed to derive from three goals: versatility, broad light spread, and using the MEOLINQ textile attachment.

Using our SLS 3D printer, we could rapidly create a first prototype that was close to our initial idea. The issues were that the light spread was too broad and had a low battery time.
After a few iterations and testing, we developed a product we were proud of and was ready to hit the market.

3
Price proposition

With Gela, we have a license agreement and an upfront development cost, meaning we worked by the hour for the design, prototyping, testing, and market research. Gela has then purchased a license to manufacture our technology and is paying per unit sold.
